Connemara Daytrip from Galway: Kylemore Abbey and Ross Errilly Friary

Healy Tours operate several popular daytrips from Galway city. Among these is an excursion into Connemara, a wilderness known for its mountains, valleys and lakes. This is area is one of the few in Ireland where local villagers still speak the old Gaelic language. Of course, English is ubiquitous; but if you tilt your ear in a pub you’ll hear the old words fluttering about.

This tour begins by following Galway Bay, and tourists enjoy views of the Aran Islands off in the distance. From here, it’s on to the mountains of Connemara. You’ll see the place where John Wayne’s The Quiet Man was filmed. The tour also takes in the Killary Fjord, the only one of its kind in Ireland.

Next up is Kilemore Abbey and Gardens for a scenic lunch. On the way back to Galway, the tour takes in a few small villages along Lough Corrib, where angling is the favourite pastime.
