The Crane Bar is a household name in Galway. This traditional pub doubles as one of the most popular live music venues in the region, and it attracts some of the best traditional music talent in Ireland. It is located at Small Crane Square along Sea Road.
The pub is split into two levels. Downstairs is the ‘local’, an Irish bar with plenty of authentic atmosphere. This intimate space hosts live sessions on a nightly basis. Upstairs is ‘The Listeners Club’, which is a bit larger and can host up to 70 persons. It hosts concerts and programmes throughout the year.
While the ground floor features mostly amateur musicians, ‘The Listeners Club’ is a prime venue for up-and-coming talent. The music starts nightly at 9:30 p.m., and it’s worth coming early to ensure that you get a seat. In any event, showing up a few minutes early gives you the chance to sample the bar’s local stout.
